Peace on Earth

PEACE ON EARTH

The Archer is wake!
The Swan is flying!
Gold against blue
An Arrow is lying.
There is hunting in heaven--
Sleep safe till to-morrow.
The Bears are abroad!
The Eagle is screaming!
Gold against blue
Their eyes are gleaming!
Sleep!
Sleep safe till to-morrow.
The Sisters lie
With their arms intertwining;
Gold against blue
Their hair is shining!
The Serpent writhes!
Orion is listening!
Gold against blue
His sword is glistening!
Sleep!
There is hunting in heaven--
Sleep safe till to-morrow.

William Carlos Williams, 1913 (TOAOAL--II, pg. 1314)

This poem is showing the journey one's eyes can take when looking at our night sky. The bears are Canaris major and minor. It also shows orion the hunter and many other constellations. The story that our ancestors told of them in the past, are why today we still can distinguish the same star patterns they could thousands of years ago.
